He must convince his proud and stubborn childhood friend, the warrior Red Wolf, that he, too, is a Berdache and must take the shaman training, before Red Wolf loses his mind. A call for aid comes, so the Berdache, Red Wolf, and the beautiful Chickasaw slave, Born In Moonlight, take the journey to hopefully avoid a war. Will these three give into the closeness they begin to feel or will they be forever separated by the dangers they face from both the Spirit World, and the world that surrounds them.
This title is no longer available for sale from Amazon or the original publisher, likely because the author (or someone else involved) discovered that “berdache” is an emphatically outdated and racist term for two-spirit. The novella itself is barely over 80 pages and shows the same respect for First Nations cultures as an “Indian” Halloween costume. It does very little to explore gender identity beyond the romantic trio completing tasks associated with the other assigned gender and quite frankly? The erotica is mediocre. Choose your own adventure or whatever, but if I’d known all this ahead of time, I probably wouldn’t have bothered reading it.
