The text is the first case study of Magnus Hirschfeld whose theories and activism exposed the limits of the binary-system of gender and sought to advance the notion of gender fluidity in the field of sexology. More than a biography, the author advocates for a reconsideration of Hirschfeld’s work and its critical engagement with not only academia, but the political and social sphere at the time and its usefulness to us in the present.
